A graduate of Lehighton Area High School, Karen went on to earn a college degree in criminal justice, equipping her with a strong foundation in public safety, law, and community advocacy. Her educational background has played an important role in shaping her approach to leadership - balancing fairness, accountability, and a deep understanding of the needs of her residents.

Karen has been a resident of Summit Hill for 26 years, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to the town and its people. Over the years, she has not only lived in the community but actively contributed to its growth and vitality.

As a local business owner, Karen has operated the Hair Zone salon in Summit Hill for 26 years. Through her business, she has connected with generations of residents, building relationships and gaining firsthand insight into the concerns, values, and spirit of the community. Her experience as a small business owner gives her a practical perspective on economic development and the importance of supporting local enterprises.

Before becoming Mayor, Karen served on the Summit Hill Borough Council for 10 years. During that time, she worked collaboratively with fellow council members to address local issues, improve services, and strengthen the borough’s infrastructure. Her decade of service on council laid the groundwork for her current leadership role.

Today, as Mayor of Summit Hill, Karen Ruzicka continues to serve with dedication and integrity. Her journey—from student to business owner, council member to mayor—reflects a deep and enduring commitment to the community she has called home for over two decades.
