Welcome to the Summit Hill Website!

Summit Hill Borough welcomes you to our Website! Summit Hill is a beautiful community located in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Carbon County. The elevation of Summit Hill is at 1600 feet above sea level. Our beautiful hilltop community was founded 1791 by a hunter named Philip Ginter when he discovered Anthracite coal on Sharp Mountain, now called Summit Hill.  Summit Hill is also known for the birthplace of the Switchback gravity railroad. It was the first gravity railroad in the United States.
